If you prefer a visual tool, you can use this widget that allows you to build other widgets (although limited in many ways). To start writing your own widgets from scratch, you may find it interesting reading Adrian Citu's First Widget Tutorial, the classic Scott Collin's Beginning Widget Writer's Guide or the Widget Creation Tutorial from Y!.
