messageTrack Application Use time using widgets.
Hi,

My aim is to track the amount of time spent by a user on each application he has launched, using widgets.

The widget will have the option to save the information for future reference.

Can anyone help me in this regard.

Thanks in Advance
Sreekanth

Let me know how to get the front application name and the time spent on it to the widget environment.

which frontend scripting are you using to build the widget?
anyway, you would need to have some backend script to save the data including the program & the database. Are you familiar with it?

Quezada,

Thank you very much for prompt replying.

I am not using any IDE for developing the widget. I am familiar with JavaScript, Apple script and shell script. I know these can be incorporated within the widget.

I am familiar with oracle database also. And i think this is not required in this case because the data to be managed is very minimal here. My plan is to write the data into a file (a plist will suit here), and retrieve from that file for display purpose.

Can you please guide me in getting the Application Name, the user has launched and it's live time (time since it has been launched) using shell command or apple script or java script?

Any help in this regard will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Sreekanth

sorry for the question but I think hasn't been said:
- are we talking about web widgets or desktop widgets?

and which sort of application is the user going to open?

Quezada,
I am sorry for not being clear. I am talking about a widget that can be deployed within Mac Dashboard.

Thanks,
Sreekanth

I'm feeling a bit embarrassed; first of all because I didn't answer you before and the second thing is: I don't have a Mac! so I have no idea how Mac Dashboard widgets work nor how to get data from the MacOS confused smiley
I hope someone else will be able to give you a hand
