messageIntegrated widget bundle possible, and how to ensure data security?
Hi All,

I've been led to this forum by searching around the internet for widget communities and the likes, and I'm need of some qualified sparring. What i need sparring for is an idea that I have developed for a course in innovation on my Masters degree programme at Copenhagen Business School, Denmark. So as you can hear I'm not a programmer myself, which means that I need some sparring since my knowledge has some shortcomings in that respect.

The thing is a want to develop a non-OS bound customizable dekstop widget "package" consisting of several feeds and functionalities, all taken and feeding from to intranet systems at my school. These systems are very information heavy and each student is pushed an abundance of relevant as well as superfluous information which is both irritating and decreasing communication efficiency. Thus I want to develop a modular desktop widget package which each student can personalize by choosing among the feeds and functionalities from the original systems one is interested in. This should contain mandatory feeds/functionalities (e.g. the dean's blog, "Important News" etc.) as well as customizable feeds/functionalities (e.g. groups, IM, etc.). However this might pose som security problems, since some of the information that a student may want feeds about is private and confidential to the individual. There might also be other challenges I'm not aware of, since I'm no programmer.

This is where I hope that you guys can fill me in - Is the abovementioned even possible, what challenges would there be, and do you have any other insights or great ideas to integrate?

Thank you in advance. All commments are more than welcome.

Kind Regards,
Esben (MSocSc in Management of Creative Business Processes)

Hi Esben

For creating this kind of system an intranet base web is better option.althoug it possible to create a widget which read feeds and display to user.Basic authentication can also be provided for user login. The widget can have two package for MAC and windows.yahoo widget SDK is used for its development. But basic use of widget is to provide summerize information.on the other hand a website can handle all your required system information with ease diffrent type of user groups can be created with security options.

Please contact me at bepersonal@hotmail.com for more information and we can develop widget and website for you
regards

Kamran
