I do hope you like this Steampunk Rotating Earth Globe Widget. This Konfabulator/ yahoo widget provides a simple rotating globe that can rotate at two speeds. The animation comes from thirty six medium resolution images, played one after the other, frame by frame giving a simulation of the rotating earth. Shown above layered on top my orrery widget, just making changes to that too so that it will incorporate the spinning earth function by default.
